2. Balanced Diet - Everything in moderation. no need to cut out all those sweet treats but ensure your diet is protein, vitamin and fibre rich, plenty of green vegetables, grains and variety. Try to eat a good wholesome breakfast and if you are on a weight-loss diet, eat three good meals a day but resist snacking to keep the metabolism regular and the weight down.
3. Exercise – Are you doing too much? To little? Do you exercise at least 4 times a week? Keep your mody moving – use it or lose it. Exercise doesn’t have to be taxing – keep it simple and fun. FInd something you enjoy and stick to it. Doing something once and then dropping it won’t help to keep you healthy. Set yourself a 6-week goal and see the results!
4. Take Stock - Check your make-up. Does it reflect who you are today? Do you need to update your lipstick or eyeshadow? If you are unsure about what colours are good for your skin tone, seek the advice of a make-up consultant at the cosmetic counter of any good department store.
5. Regular Treats- Don’t forget to give back to yourself once in a while. Regular treats such as facials, manicures and massage are a great way to nuture the body and soul. Time for yourself is important especially if you are a mother, a giver or workaholic. Take time to enjoy life.
6. Cut Down - Check your life for negative activities that are counter-productive to your health and beauty. If you smoke, consider cutting down or quitting. If you eat too much fat or sugar, look at alternatives and the cause of any cravings you may have.

8. Clean Your Beauty Case - Give your make-up bag or beauty box a once over and check that the perfume you are using hasn’t spoiled. Make-up brushes can contain a lot of bacteria so wash regularly.
9. Smile More - Smiling releases receptors in the brain that actually make us feel good, so try it regularly. It also helps to project a more beautiful, positive you – take a trip to the dentist for a teeth whitening treatment for an even brighter look.

Mary Quant

“Fashion is a tool… to compete in life outside the home. People like you better, without knowing why, because people always react well to a person they like the looks of. ” Mary Quant
In 1966, fashion designer Mary Quant was honoured by the Queen with an OBE. She collected her award wearing her famous fashion invention, a mini-skirt and in the same year, founded her cosmetics line.
Born in Kent, Quant studied illustration at Goldsmith’s College before taking a job with a couture milliner. In 1955, she along with her husband Alexander Plunkett Greene, and friend & accountant Archie McNair, opened the famous “Bazaar” clothes shop on the Kings Road, London.
Bazaar quickly became a popular haunt for the fashionable Chelsea Set of “Swinging London” and she opened her second store in Knightsbridge in 1961. She epitomised the “London Look” with her knee-high white patent plastic boots, tight skinny-rib sweaters and of course, the famous mini-skirts. Her cosmetic line originated in 1966 at the height of her popularity when she launched the famous “Paintbox” makeup kit. She is also famed for her micro mini-skirt and hot pants. Since the late 60’s she has devloped her range of household goods and make-up and most recently in 2000, she resigned as director of her limited company, Mary Quant Ltd, after a Japanese buy-out where the brand is hugely popular with over 200 shops.
The Mary Quant makeup range includes: 101 Lipsticks, 120 Eye Shadows, 99 Nail Polish, 80 Lip Mix, Range of Brushes & Skincare Products, Blushers, Foundation, Powders and Concealers, Body Products and Sunblock.
Mature Make-Up
Update your Foundation Techniques for a Youthful Look
Face Facts
As we get older our skin starts to change. We may experience fine lines, wrinkles, brown spots, dullness and dehydration. Many people are tempted to apply heavy foundations at this time to blot out the imperfections and strong blusher to make cheeks look thinner and brighter. Thick foundation makes the skin look heavy and clogged and often the colours and textures do not blend well into the neck or hairline. Unnatural and strong blush lines are harsh and can make us look sallow.
A better way is to use a combination of different products to blend into the skin and give a more natural and enhanced look. Try using concealer, light reflecting foundation and oil-free powder. Apply a concealer such as Cliniques Airbrush Concealer which hides shadows and pigmentation . Next, apply foundation over the whole face – try Clarins Super Restorative Foundation. Always blend carefully in along the hair and jaw line and check in good light for any areas not blended in. The light-reflectors add luminosity to the skin and soften the look of fine lines. Powder can be applied with a large brush for even and light coverage that won’t appear too heavy. Estee Lauder have a beautiful range of powders including the Lucidity Translucent Powder. Try this technique for younger looking skin and a great new image.
Choosing a Foundation:
- Avoid matte formulas which can cause skin to look dull
- Applying too much – less is more
- Check with a beautician which colour is right for you. Don’t go for something that is not akin to your natural skin tone or colouring.
Blusher
Many people take a heavy-handed approach to blusher or choose a color which is too unnatural.
Try and go for something more natural and in tune with your own skin tone which gives you that rose cheek glow of health. Again, try several colours to test and ask a Beautician or friend to help you choose. When applying, slowly twirl the brush over the skin, from the cheeks and up and out to the hairline. This will avoid streaking and blend the blusher evenly. Always test in good natural light to ensure you have an accurate idea of the tone you are choosing. A wonderful product is the Palette Collection, by Yves Saint Laurent or for the more budget conscious, Bourjois have an excellent range of blushers for under £6 each. Buy them from Superdrug or all good stockists.
